Most lawn problems in the Triangle are not mowing problems. A lawn can be cut perfectly every week and still thin out, because the things that actually drive turf density — soil compaction, fertility timing, weed pressure and disease — are not addressed by a mower.
Our full-service plan is built around that. Mowing is included during the growing season, but the core of the program is the fertilization schedule, pre- and post-emergent weed control, core aeration and overseeding, bed weed suppression, quarterly pruning and fall cleanup. Timing varies by grass type and season — a tall fescue lawn and a bermuda lawn want nearly opposite calendars.
If you only want the grass cut, we will say so plainly and point you at a mow-only service. The full-service plan is for homeowners who want the lawn to change, not just stay trimmed.
Mowing keeps a lawn tidy. Everything else is what makes it thick.
Timing shifts with your grass type — this is the general shape of a year.
Pre-emergent goes down before soil temperatures bring up crabgrass and summer annuals, and the first feeding of the year is timed to the grass type rather than the calendar.
Mowing at the right height, post-emergent for breakthrough weeds, and bed weed control. On fescue we are careful with nitrogen through the heat — summer nitrogen on fescue encourages brown patch rather than growth.
Disease and insect pressure peak. Fungicide, grub and armyworm treatments are available as add-ons when a lawn needs them, rather than applied to every property by default.
The most important window of the year for a fescue lawn — core aeration and overseeding, NC State Extension puts the Piedmont target between mid-September and early October. Leaf removal follows as the canopy drops.
